REVIEW: V/H/S - WE'RE GONNA NEED SOME BIGGER RIFFS

BAND: V/H/S

ALBUM: WE'RE GONNA NEED SOME BIGGER RIFFS

FROM: CANADA

Hailing from the depths of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, V/H/S has been executing their style and sound of fast thrash death metal with a hint of punk rock and a lot of gore. And by a lot of gore I mean, if you took every 80's slasher film and blended them together only then would you be able to touch the surface of the lyrical and humorous content V/H/S supplies us with.

Having the honor to not only interview, as well as a video premiere but we are also doing a review of their latest release "We're Gonna Need Some Bigger Riffs". Before I dive into the album and what it offers I will say that if you have not listened to this album then stop what you are doing now and listen with the playlist provided below.

What can I say. I love V/H/S. From the slapstick and cheesy atmosphere to the fast thrashy and slow chuggy riffage, V/H/S offers a variety of intense and brutal music to appease any metal head. With the opening track "Full Scream", this builds whats to come. Atmospheric sounds that go along with the title building in to the hard hitting 15 second track "Zombie vs. Shark".

"Let's Get Gruesome" follows after almost as a sequel to the track molding and blending what I would call a seamless album.

One song I would like to mention now that is my favorite off the album is "Death and Carnage in Waves". Located on track 8 and halfway through the album, this track starts of with this heavy rock riff that takes away and brings us on this crazy metal jam. Oh, and did i mention it features Matt Harvey (Exhumed) on vocals? WELL IT DOES. And the blend of his vocals over this V/H/S is candy for the ears. Parts of the song, including the solo section (YES THIS HAS GUITAR SOLOS) that reminds me of Maiden and other bands of the same genre. Shredtastic solo and a groove that gets lost in the back of the mind. A song you will find yourself humming for hours i assure you.

Another notable mention on this album is the track "Rooting for the Villian" Ft. Trevor Strnad of the Black Dahlia Murder. Another amazing track that showcases the musical and writing talent of Mike and the band. Trevor being a supporter of V/H/S seemed to make sense to have him on at least one track.

I can go on and on about how amazing this album is but there is only one way for you to find out. LISTEN FOR YOURSELF! Being this the second review for Black Mass Records it seems odd to have another 5 star review right off the bat but what the fuck can I say. When its good its GOOOOOOOOD!
